September

Last Saturday, the weather was so nice, I took my students' papers to Boyle Park so I could grade them in the big outdoors. The creek floods when there's a lot of rain, so this area of the park is allowed to go kind of wild, which is perfect to me.

Footbridge over the creek; an inchworm that dropped onto one of my papers.

Wild sunflowers; pine trees in the park.

Two stuffed animals I've encountered lately:

Tigger in the heap of rubbish from some apartments that burned this month; a rabbit I knitted and stuffed.

Yesterday was the Fall Equinox. I went out to Toltec Mounds State Park, which is only about a thirty minute drive. There are about 18 Indian mounds there built by the Plum Bayou People between 600 and 1000 A.D. and they think they were used for ceremonial and calandering purposes. On equinoxes and solstices different mounds line up with the sun, which is pretty cool.

Cotton field between North Little Rock and Keo; marten houses and one of the large mounds; two of the preserved mounds.

Cypress trees in the oxbow lake.

People walking past a mound; park ranger telling a Native American story about the origin of the stars.

Sunset directly over Mound A.

Happy Autumn! (a postcard of hickory leaves from near my apartment last Novermber)
